No one is better at painting a portrait of their subjects than Marie Losier. Maybe because she understands that to capture the heart of an artist isn’t enough; in her films, her characters’ imaginations are as important as their work. In her latest documentary, she immerses herself in the world of the musician Felix Kublin, a universe of synthesizers, underwater experiments, children’s choirs and dogs chewing on microphones. All portraits are artificial, Losier knows that and instead of trying to conceal the fiction, she embraces it to tell a tale along with her protagonists. Felix in Wonderland is a playful dialogue with Kublin’s creative universe in which dreams, dances, fantasies and fears build a picture of a brilliant artist. “I believe in dissonance,” Kublin says at one point. This film, like all of Losier’s work, shares that belief. (Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata)
